‘What’s it like really like being a Coversure franchisee?’ is a question we get asked by most of our prospective franchise holders. To answer it we spoke to Coversure’s franchise holder in Newcastle, Janet Fay to get the inside story on being a Coversure franchisee.
How long have you been a Coversure Franchise holder?
I have been a franchise holder for 19 years
And prior to Coversure, what was your insurance experience – you obviously had at least three years’ experience in the industry?
I have been involved in the insurance industry all of my working life, starting as a trainee underwriter for Cornhill after leaving university 38 years ago. After 5 years there I went into broking and realised that was my real calling; having the direct contact with clients.
What was it that made you decide to become a Coversure franchisee – the support, the agencies, the products?
I’ve always wanted to run my own business and Coversure gave me the opportunity. It was the early days of Coversure and the chairman, Mark Coverdale, mainly took me on trust and gave me the chance of a lifetime.
On a day-to-day basis, how supportive do you find Coversure HQ?
Coversure’s support is second to none. Unlike your independent broker we have accounts settlement done for us. Facilities are set up for us and all we have to do is concentrate on running our business and writing business. We have access to experts in compliance and marketing and far better commission rates have been negotiated on our behalf with insurers than we could do ourselves.
Do they make doing business easier?
Doing business is far easier as we have a bespoke computer system which is tailored to the needs of the business. It’s continually being developed to help us do our jobs and remain compliant. We have expertise at the end of a telephone on any issue we may face in the business.
Would you recommend Coversure to other insurance professionals thinking of starting their own brokerage?
I would recommend Coversure to other insurance professionals without hesitation
And what’s the one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting their own Coversure franchise?
Take the advice of the franchisor and follow the business model. You won’t go far wrong
If you could sum up being a Coversure franchise holder in a couple of sentences, what would you say?
I feel that I have the freedom that any independent local broker has to run my business and take it in the direction I want. Add to that the buying power and support of a large group, yet somehow, Coversure still manage to retain that feeling of being part of the ‘family firm’.
