When you turn on the news or read the paper there’s floods of stories about the “death of the high street” in the UK, though our home Mold is taking great strides to keep the high street thriving. This has been recognised with an award nomination for Rising Start High Street of the Year in the upcoming Great British High Street Awards. What is Mold doing right and what will it mean for our businesses? We explore in this blog.
Mold’s High Street Initiatives
Over the last few years Mold Council and local businesses have been working hard to build a strong and stable community that encourages tourism locally. To be shortlisted for an award, especially one showing improvement, you need to be able to show you’re working on multiple avenues and ideas to grow visitors to the high street. Something Mold and the big heart of the community have done, with schemes such as:
Events In Mold
A full social calendar offers residents, business owners and tourists a great chance to explore Mold and appreciate the history of our Flintshire town. From the regular market in the centre to music festivals and temporary displays of art, the social calendar for 2019 is packed. Supporting these events is crucial, you can find a full list of what’s happening in Mold here.
Digital Trail App
Mold has also launched a revolutionary Digital Trail app, offering tourists the chance to follow story-based routes showing some of Mold’s landmarks. The app guides you along stunning walks whilst providing history information along the way. This encourages good health with walking as well as promoting Mold’s best sites and tourism to the area. Adapting Mold to the digital age is key to survive and the Council have took this on board.
Social Media Usage
Mold Council and key members of business groups are incredibly active on social media, ensuring the local community is kept in the know on what is occurring locally and how they can help. This is allowing the events and the community to spread to a younger, engaged age range. Ensuring the future of Mold is in safe hands and that the community work can continue.
Clean Up Mold
Mold have an annual spring clean to keep the town free of litter and as clean as possible. Taking place over a weekend in April, over 700 volunteers helped in 2018, collecting over 280 bags of rubbish and keeping the thriving community going. Long may it continue!
Save A Life Campaign
A scheme introduced by Mold Mayor Tim Maunders, the Save A Life campaign has seen 25 defibrillators placed around the town and has taught over 1500 people to learn key life saving techniques. This is hoped that if there are any accidents that need people to respond fast that they have the education and resources to do so.
Mold Encouraging Independent Businesses
One of our favourite things about Mold is the range of independent businesses in the area that are given a platform to succeed. A lot of British high streets are awash with the same large brands as small, independent stores struggle. Mold has an identity and encourages independent business, like Coversure, to thrive.
We also help with allowing independent businesses to stay safe from the modern risks they face. With our comprehensive shop insurance, we can ensure that if the worst case does happen that your money, employees and business are protected. Want a quotation?
