‘What’s it like really like being a Coversure franchisee?’ is a question we get asked by most of our prospective franchise holders. To answer it we spoke to Coversure’s franchise holder in Poole, John Palmer to get the inside story on being a Coversure franchisee.
How long have you been a Coversure Franchise holder?
It will be 3 years in November 2017.
And prior to Coversure, what was your insurance experience – you obviously had at least three years’ experience in the industry?
Yes indeed, my first full time job was in Insurance, I started at A-Plan Insurance at the age of 20 on the front counter dealing with general enquiries, I worked my way up to Sales Manager and finally Office manager in the Bournemouth office. In 2011 I opened a brand new office for A-Plan in Poole, it had always been my dream to have my own branch and the fact that it was a new branch with no clients meant that I was able to learn everything I needed to be able to set up my own business one day.
What was it that made you decide to become a Coversure franchisee – the support, the agencies, the products?
I loved everything about Coversure to be honest, my dream was always to own an Insurance Brokerage that really could offer all services to my clients, from Car & Home to Business and Fleet. It’s very rare to find a company that can truly say that they offer everything that we do and at such competitive prices and fantastic service.
From my first meeting with the Coversure chiefs I could tell that there was a real family feel behind the culture which is very important to me, along with the support in terms of accounts, software, compliance and products, it really was a no brainer.
On a day-to-day basis, how supportive do you find Coversure HQ?
Coversure go above and beyond to support you, I was and still am blown away with the levels of support that I get compared to working for a large brokerage at a senior level.
Do they make doing business easier?
Yes, with new things being released every month from marketing to system enhancements it allows me to focus on the business and nothing else.
Would you recommend Coversure to other insurance professionals thinking of starting their own brokerage?
Absolutely, I just wish I had made the decision to start my own business up years ago.
And what’s the one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting their own Coversure franchise?
You are not alone, there is a huge amount of support available to you at Head office but also with your fellow Franchise Owners, so don’t be shy to pick up the phone.
If you could sum up being a Coversure franchise holder in a couple of sentences, what would you say?
I get the best of both worlds, a locally owned and run high street Broker, offering all the knowledge and service that you would expect with that, along with the buying power and support of a much larger company that truly wants me to succeed in every way.
