What Can Travel Insurance Cover

Travel insurance is a flexible policy that protects you against a range of risks while you are travelling at home or abroad. While we are rightly proud of our amazing NHS and its ability to offer free care at the point of service, you can’t guarantee the same level of help when overseas. Travel insurance through your local Coversure office can give you financial peace of mind at a time of need and offer help with:
  • The costs of dealing with a medical emergency
  • The cost of having to stay in a foreign country for longer than planned
  • The cost of being repatriated to the UK

What Does Travel Insurance Cover?

Travel insurance is a flexible policy and can cover a range of risks, including:

  • Accidents and accidental injury
  • Lost luggage
  • Cancellation in the event of you having to cancel owing to illness or bereavement
  • Travel delays
  • Theft of your possessions to and from your destination and while you are there
  • Pre-existing medical conditions – you will need to discuss these with your broker so if they can find you an insurer who will be able to offer you cover
  • Emergency repatriation should the situation become so severe that you need to get home quickly
  • Personal liability – should you accidentally injure someone or damage their property, this will protect you financially

If you’d like some independent help getting the right travel insurance for you, please get in touch with your local Coversure office.

Travel Insurance Options

Many of us are becoming more adventurous in our travels and are using trips to try new things, see new places, and even get married.  Travel insurance through Coversure can accommodate these activities and offer optional protection for:

  • Phones and other devices
  • Hazardous activities – if you’re going paragliding, ballooning, skiing, or caving, then you may want to give yourself extra protection
  • Wedding cover – this popular cover offers additional protection for essential items such as your wedding dress, rings, and gifts
  • Terrorism cover – sadly, this is an all-too-common occurrence these days, and this option offers cover if you have to cancel or cut short your trip because a terrorist act is committed within a set distance of where you’re staying
  • Natural disaster cover – should your trip be affected by storms, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, or a tidal wave
  • Travel disruption – this gives you extended cover if the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) changes its travel advice or if strikes or industrial action mean your transport is cancelled.  This is a handy cover if you’re visiting nations that have a recent history of instability

What Types Of Travel Insurance Are There?

There are many types of travel insurance; these include:

  • Single trip – which will protect you for one journey that lasts up to a year
  • Annual multi-trip – which is ideal for serial holidaymakers and business travel users
  • Backpackers – this offers protection for up to 18 months and allows you to visit multiple countries
  • Business – if you’re away with work, you may have expensive equipment that needs protecting
  • Couples – for partners living at the same address
  • Family – for parents and children living at the same address
  • Group – for parties travelling together

The best way to find out how much protection you need is to contact your local Coversure. They’ll be able to advise you as to what you need and create a package of Travel cover for you.

Travel Insurance FAQ

Travel insurance can be a complex cover area, so to help you get the protection you need, here is Coversure’s travel insurance frequently asked questions.  We hope they will be of help, but if you’d like some independent advice, contact your local Coversure insurance broker.

No, but it is a wise precaution to take

While you won’t need to rely on cover to get medical care if you were forced to cut your trip short through illness or injury, it could cover you.  It can also protect your possessions while away from home

A free UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) will give you access to state healthcare on the same terms as a local, but you shouldn’t consider this an alternative to travel cover.  The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) recommends having a separate travel insurance policy and a GHIC/EHIC when visiting Europe

That will depend on factors such as your age, where you are going, pre-existing medical conditions, the length of time you will be away, and what you will be doing while you are there.  To get a personalised travel insurance quote or get in touch with your local Coversure office

That will depend on the activity you are planning.  Skiing, water sports, or climbing, for example, may require specialist protection
