Why you need Business Car Insurance?

I have recently set up a small business and need a car to visit my clients on a regular basis. A friend of mine told me about business car insurance so I decided to look into it and this is what I found:

  • Why would I need business car insurance rather than just car insurance?
Most normal car insurance policies will cover you for social, domestic, pleasure use and to and from your usual place of work. If you have more than one place of work, you travel to see clients, or use your car for your job, then a normal policy will not normally cover you, and you would need business car insurance.

  • I plan to use the car as a bit of a pool car, can my staff drive it?
Yes you can take out an insurance policy that includes any driver and in some cases any age.

  • Can I still use the car for personal use?
Yes a business car policy includes Social, Domestic & Pleasure as well as Business Use?

  • If I buy another car, can I insure it on the same policy?
If you have three or more vehicles, you can add them to a mini fleet insurance policy

  • Does business car insurance include breakdown cover?
Yes breakdown cover is available on most policies

  • Do business cars come with legal cover?
Yes, but legal cover is often available as an optional extra

  • If I have to make a claim and my car is off road, can I have a courtesy car?
Yes, several business car insurance policies include this as standard; however, if your car is written off due to an accident, fire or theft, you will not always be entitled to a hire / courtesy car.

After looking into it, I think I will buy a business car insurance policy as I use the car primarily for business and if I have an accident, I don’t want to risk invalidating my cover. I was pleased to find that business car insurance is not as expensive as I thought.
